Lunel

The exceptional and diverse cultural inheritance, architectural richness testifying a glorious and historical past ( rebirth style castle at Marsillargues, XI th century roman church at Saussines, XII th century church at Valergues,...).

The occupation of Lunel is attested by tremendous traces on the whole territory, since the roman time but also since the prehistoric time (Ambrussum, Lunel-Viel). Those vestiges testify a rich past throughout the centuries.

Cradle of camargues traditions, the bulls and horse discover is impossible to circumvent.
In a country where the bull is king, the traditional festivals with the “abrivados”, “bandidos”, and “ancierros” appeal a real crowd of amateurs coming forom every part of the world. The free motion with its “raseteurs” (men in white) is famous in Lunel, Marsillargues, Lunel-Viel and St Christol.

Lunel is at the door of our most famous wines, such as “les coteaux de St Christol”,which benefits from a huge reputation.
The legend tells that the St Christol wine was served on St Louis table back in the days, and later, on Tsar Nicolas II table next to best wines of France.
In 1952, the French Republique official paper classify it “Name of origin wine”, “superior quality wine”. It became in 1985 Name of Controlled Origin.
